JOB DESCRIPTION FOR POSSIBLE INTERNSHIP 2020

DETAILS OF PROJECT:

TIn 2012 (Chicago Summit), NATO leaders agreed to embrace Smart Defense (SD) to ensure the Alliance can develop, acquire & maintain capabilities required to achieve the goals of NATO Forces 2020. Since 2012, the Special Envoy role of Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) and Deputy Secretary General (to engage with senior Military and Politcal leaders to encourage participation by Allied nations) has been assumed in a steady state by ACT Defence Planning Integration - Multinational Solutions (MNS) as part of the NATO Command Structure Adaptation (2018). The post-holder will contribute to the ACT MNS activities which includes coordination of Smart Defence, Framework Nations Concept (FNC), Regional Groupings and other Multinational efforts.

Specific Duties will include:

  1. Analysis and research support of all related multinational capability development initiatives throughout NATO and non-NATO nations and including international and regional entities.
  2. Assist in the management and conduct of on-going studies related to development of SD projects and activities.
  3. Support development of the Multinational Solutions Synchronisation Workshop (MNSS WS).

EXPECTED DELIVERABLE(S):

The post-holder will assist in the further development of the Defence Planning Management System (DPMS) and will fully participate in the preparation and organization of the yearly Multinational Solutions Synchronization Workshop (MNSS WS). Additional specific deliverables will depend on the type of multinational proposals and initiatives being implemented at the time the position is filled.

TYPE OF BACKGROUND/EDUCATION PREFERRED:

Current or recent Post Graduate in political science, international relations, public policy or humanities, post-graduate level preferred. English proficiency and strong interpersonal skills are essential. A strong interest in military affairs and previous work experience in defence and security would be highly desirable.
