In Georgia, General Mercier met with Giorgi Margvelashvili, the President of Georgia and Major General Vladimer Chachibaia – Head of the General Staff of Georgian Armed Forces.
President Margvelashvili and General Mercier discussed the NATO-Georgia Substantial Package and current reforms in the Alliance. The meeting focused on prospective NATO-Georgia joint military trainings and the NATO policy to be carried out in terms of the Black Sea security and the entire Eastern Wing.
The meeting has also been attended by Giorgi Abashishvili – Head of President Margvelashvili’s Administration, Davit Rakviashvili – Secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia, Major General Vladimer Chachibaia – Head of the General Staff of Georgian Armed Forces, and Tengiz Pkhaladze – Advisor to President Margvelashvili for Foreign Affairs. General Mercier emphasized Georgia’s tremendous support provided to NATO-led operations and expressed gratitude for its commitment to peace and prosperity. The NATO-Georgia Substantial Package was identified as a clear national priority for Georgian leadership and that Tbilisi is committed to effectively use all integration instruments, having in mind that the SNGP is a truly unique instrument that no other partner country has in its tool box.
