Major General Şefik ATAK was born in 1970 in the city of Ankara, Turkey. He graduated from Kuleli Military High School in 1988 and from Turkish Military Academy in 1992. In 1993, he became an armor officer after graduating from the Armor School and Training Division Command in Ankara.
During 1993 to 2001, he served as platoon and company commander in different army units.
He graduated from the Staff College in 2003, and from Armed Forces Academy in 2010. In 2016 he attended National Defense University National War Academy for six months in Washington DC.
Between 2003 and 2005 he served as the G2 and G3 Branch Heads at 28th Mechanized Division in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Between 2005 and 2008, Major General Şefik ATAK had his first long term appointment at NATO as 1 (German/Netherlands) Corps-1GNC G9 plan officer.
In 2008 he was appointed to the Centre of Excellence Defence Against Terrorism (COE DAT) in Ankara/Turkey, during his duty he was appointed as Army Training Project Officer in Training and Exercises Branch at Turkish General Staff in Ankara.
Between 2010 and 2012 he served as Mechanized Battalion Commander and Chief of Staff at 1st Mechanized Brigade Ağrı/Doğubeyazıt.
He continued his international carrier while serving as a Staff Officer in Defence Policy and Planning Directorate at NATO IS in Brussels/Belgium between 2012 and 2014.
After he returned to Turkey he served as the Brigade Deputy Commander from 2014 to 2016 in Osmaniye. Between 2016 and 2018, he served as Training and Exercises Branch Head at Turkish General Staff in Ankara.
Major General Şefik ATAK was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 2018 and appointed as the Commander of the 5th Armor Brigade in Gaziantep/Turkey.
After his promotion to Major General on August 2019, he was assigned as Deputy Chief of Staff Resource and Management, ACT, Norfolk.
He is married to Mrs. Emel with two sons. His hobbies include reading, jogging and travelling.
